Caustic Soda

General Description:

Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) is a versatile alkali. It is a white solid ionic compound consisting of sodium cations Na+ and hydroxide anions OH-. Sodium hydroxide is a highly caustic base and alkali that decomposes proteins at ordinary ambient temperatures and may cause severe chemical burns.

Application & Usage :

In Pulp & Paper Industry, caustic soda is used usually in the form of lye to remove the lignin that binds the fibers In the chemical pulping process. Caustic soda is also used in paper recycling. The sodium hydroxide causes the fibers to swell when they are placed in a solution with the sodium hydroxide. This swelling helps to separate the ink that is attached to the fibers allowing the fibers to be reused.
In refining of Edible Oil, caustic soda is used as a neutralizer to rid them of free fatty acids that can give oils an unpleasant taste.
In Petroleum Processing (refineries) , Caustic soda is used as alkalinity sources in the liquid scrubbing of Sulphur dioxide in flue gases produced from crude-oil-fired steam generators used in thermally enhanced oil recovery. Caustic soda allows the SO2 scrubber to run at a lower pH with a higher SO2 removal capacity. This process is known as desulfurization.
In Mining and refining (Aluminum production), Alumina is produced from bauxite, an ore that is mined from topsoil in various tropical and subtropical regions using The Bayer process. After the bauxite is crushed, washed and dried, it is dissolved with caustic soda at high temperatures to extract alumina in the form of sodium aluminate which then goes through multi stage process to form Aluminum .
In water treatment, caustic is a powerful means for pH adjustment & neutralizing water streams. Caustic soda is sometimes used during water treatment to raise the pH of water supplies
Caustic soda is frequently used as an industrial cleaning agent especially for cleaning and sterilization of bottles in beverage industry.
As a reagent In chemical processing , Caustic soda serves as a reactive agent in the production process, delivering sodium to the final product in various ways and for many different purposes. Caustic soda is for example used in the production of silica’s, silicates and meta-silicates, phosphates, fibres, bleach, as well as in food processing (for example of sugar) and in the refining of vegetable and mineral oils.

Copper Sulfate

General Description:

Anhydrous form of copper sulfate occurs as mineral hydrocyanite. It exhibits a rhombic crystalline morphology. It decomposes to its oxide at temperatures above 600^oC. Hydrate of CuSO4 is prepared by the addition of dilute sulfuric acid on copper (II) oxide or copper (II) carbonate, blue triclinic crystals of pentahydrate are formed upon crystallization. In industrial preparation of CuSO4, a hot mixture of dilute sulfuric acid and scrap copper is exposed to air flow.

Application & Usage :

This anhydrous salt may be used in the electroplating and mining industries and to preserve wood in combination chromium and arsenic.

Ethyl Acetate

Pyridine

Pyridine (py) may be used in the preparation of vanadium oxide nanoparticles and iron benzenedicarboxylates, Fe(OH)(BDC)(py)_0.85 (BDC = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate, py = pyridine).[4] It may be employed as catalyst in Knoevenagel condensation reaction.
It may also be used to catalyze the borylation reaction of haloarenes to form arylboronates without using transition metal catalysts.
